IBCLC WHAT???

Did you know that ANYONE can call themselves a lactation consultant? In recent years, there has been an increase in people trying on the 'lactation consultant' hat. It's important to understand the vast difference in education and experience that is required to gain a credential in supporting families during this important time in their lives.

IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) is the gold standard in lactation support....by far the most comprehensive and strident process of attaining the highest credential in lactation, and the only Board Certified credential. On average, it takes 5 years and thousands of hours of education and experience to become educated and qualified to sit the IBLCE examination. Once certified, IBCLCs are required to continue their learning and stay up to date on evidence-based information and must prove this by recertifying every five years.
